CANTUS THURINGIA

Cantus Thuringia & Capella was founded in Weimar in 1999 by Bernhard Klapprott together with Christoph Dittmar. In various vocal and instrumental formations, the early music ensemble dedicates itself to the repertoire of the 16th to 18th centuries. As its name reveals, Cantus Thuringia & Capella is particularly committed to the musical legacy of Central Germany and especially Thuringia, one of the most important musical centres of Baroque Europe, and has revived an array of Central German works not yet heard in our time. Specialists in early music, the singers and instrumentalists apply their knowledge of historically informed performance in a lively way.

Cantus Thuringia performs either one or more per part, depending on the repertoire and historical precedent, and cultivates a comprehensive repertoire of both sacred and secular music, posing the singular challenge of presenting together both newly discovered and well-known works.
